Why choose first aid?
Learning first aid empowers teenagers to help themselves or others by providing immediate care in medical emergencies. It builds confidence and risk awareness, and benefits their personal and academic futures by demonstrating responsibility and boosting employability in babysitting, sports leadership and university applications.
Teenagers often find themselves in situations requiring such vital skills; from managing accidents at parties to helping friends with injuries or sports and recreation-related emergencies. Parents often choose this course because they want their teenagers to be more risk aware and prepared to handle real-life situations confidently.
How it works
No waiting for course dates or classroom sessions. Your teen gets immediate access and can begin learning today on any device.
Your teen works through engaging videos and interactive checks whenever suits them. They can pause mid-lesson and pick up where they left off. Designed to be completed at 1 hour per week over 3 months.
When they finish, they can download or print their certificate. They email us their edofe login number, we complete and submit the assessor report for Duke of Edinburgh through the portal and email them a copy. Zero admin for you and their teachers.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost?
The complete course is £66 including VAT. This covers all materials, assessments, the certificate, and the completed assessor report.
How long does it take?
The course is designed to be modular and has extended learning embedded within it, if your teen needs to extend the time needed. There is 12 hours of learning, designed to be undertaken at an hour a week over a 3 month period. This ensures the course meets Duke of Edinburgh Award requirements, which specify that learning must be spread over time rather than completed all at once.
Do we get a certificate?
Yes. A certificate is issued on completion and you can download and print a copy.
Can my teen learn on a phone?
Yes. The course works on phones, tablets and computers. Your teen can stop and start as often as they like.
Is this right for DofE Skills?
Yes. This has been created specifically for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Skills Section. This course will give the 3 months of content required, to be spread over the 3 months rather than completed in one go. If your teen is undertaking the Silver or Gold award and needs 6 months of content for their skills section, please add in another of our online courses. Get in touch and we can help you choose the most appropriate one - Active First Aid (for the expedition), Mental Health First Aid, one of our First Aid for Pets courses, or one of our sports courses.
Who do we put as the assessor and how do we get everything signed off for the Duke of Edinburgh Award?
Please put Emma Hammett CEO First Aid for Life as the assessor. When the course has been finished over the required time period, email us your edofe portal login number and we will check the course, complete the assessment on the portal and send you a copy.
Can we complete it over a shorter time period?
The course can be completed in one sitting or over a shorter time period. However, the Duke of Edinburgh skills section is designed to encourage young people to learn something over a prolonged period and so for Duke of Edinburgh purposes, the learning should be spread over 3 months or longer.
What if my teen needs 6 months of training?
If your teen requires 6 months of training for Silver or Gold DofE awards, they can add in one of our other online courses. The most popular ones are Active First Aid (designed with the expedition in mind), or specific courses such as Mental Health First Aid for Adults and Young People, First Aid for Dogs, First Aid for Cats or First aid for specific interests such as sailing, skiing, sports, childcare or hospitality. Contact us and we can help you choose the right combination.
Can we enrol a group?
Yes. We can import a simple list to set up a class or team quickly and we can work with teachers and parents to monitor progress. However, as the courses are fully interactive, each member will need their own course login. We are happy to offer discounts for multiple course purchases.
Is payment secure?
Yes. Payments are handled by a trusted UK provider over a secure connection. We take your privacy seriously - view our privacy policy.
