Fun things to do this Easter
Whilst Easter is an opportunity to indulge in lots of chocolate eggs, hot cross buns and family roast dinners, it also offers a perfect chance to get out and about in the fresh air. According to NHS Choices, exercise can help to reduce your risk of major illnesses (like heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer) by up to 50% and lower your risk of early death by up to 30%. So the message is clear – the more exercise you do, the more likely you are to stay fit and healthy. So why not make the most of the first days of spring? Here are just a few suggestions of some fun, outdoor activities for the Easter break.
Enjoy being outdoors (whatever the weather!)
Wherever you are this Easter, try and find a playground, park or open countryside and ….
- Have a scavenger hunt. Make a list of everyday objects for everyone to find or photograph and go exploring together
- Have an egg and spoon race (you can always blow out the inside of the eggs first, to make less mess if they get dropped!)
- Find a river and have a paper boat race. There could also be prizes for the most imaginative boat, as well as the fastest one to cross the winning line
- Make the most of nature. The spring flowers and trees could be just the artistic inspiration you need to get drawing. Or you could get creative with photography and have a competition to see if you have a budding David Bailey in the family
- Go for a family bike ride. There are lots of websites that list local bike trails, so it might be worth getting the whole family to saddle up and enjoy the ride. Even tiny children love flying by, wrapped up warm in a bike seat.
- Have a trip to the seaside. You don’t need to be brave enough to have a dip in the sea – a brisk walk along the beach can be just as invigorating. Be sure to pack a flask of tea and a hot cross bun to revive you afterwards!
- And of course – an Easter egg hunt is always good fun. There are lots of organised hunts being hosted up and down the country, so be sure to see if there’s one near you. The Easter bunny could well have been busy in your local area!
We hope you have a safe and healthy Easter break, making the most of the great outdoors.
